Brian C. Ivers

Who are you?

My name is Brian and I have been a trial lawyer for 27 years. I grew up in a small town here in Iowa. I have a wonderful wife, three grown children and a 4-year old grandson who keeps me busy when I am not practicing law. After high school I left Iowa and joined the U.S. Army to become an Airborne Ranger in A Co., 1st Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment. I am proud to have served my country and was involved in the invasion of Grenada in 1983 when we parachuted into combat to rescue American medical students who were being threatened by the then Marxist Grenadian government. I left the Army as a Sergeant in 1985 and went to the University of Iowa, where I eventually graduated from law school in 1990.

How do you relate to your clients?

I believe the foundation of any relationship is honesty and frankness. I do not sugarcoat anything or make promises I cannot keep. I never forget that I am working for the client and that their interests come above my own. My clients know I am always accessible and that I work hard for them.

What motivates you?

What motivates me in the legal realm is winning cases for my clients. The attorney client relationship is sacred to me. Once I am retained, I do everything that is ethically within my power to prevail for my clients.

What are your challenges?

The quality of your attorney has a huge impact on whether you win or lose your case. Consequently, it’s difficult for attorneys to keep their egos out of the legal process. Couple that with the fact that I am a “perfectionist” and it can make for a lot of sleepless nights worrying about clients and cases. The challenge is to give one hundred percent effort but not take it personally when things you cannot control go wrong. Unfortunately, I am not there yet.

What is important to you?

That I am true to my word and never let others down.
