Paralegal - Des Moines Office
Position (Full-time, In-person): Paralegal for our Des Moines branch office
Position description:
Our injury law team handles a wide variety of cases and legal issues related to work injuries, bicycle accidents, motorcycle accidents, car accidents, truck accidents, medical malpractice, nursing home injuries, brain injuries, wrongful death, and other related matters.
The paralegal will work primarily with a team who manages work injury, car accident, medical malpractice, and wrongful death cases. The paralegal generally assists with managing all personal injury matters at all stages of intake and litigation. Specific areas of focus include:
- Assisting with the screening of potential clients according to attorney-defined criteria;
- Working with clients to gather and organization key information and documents at various phases and turning points of the case from intake through trial.
- Corresponding with third parties including insurance companies, medical providers, government agencies, expert witnesses, and others to request and receive key documents
- Guiding cases through judicial timelines and processes, including by managing case deadlines and progress
- Overseeing the flow of written document exchange with opposing legal counsel, including both responding to requests and managing and organizing incoming information;
- Assisting with all aspects of scheduled court events and trial, including attending events when needed
- Serving as a front-line resource for clients and the liaison between attorneys and clients throughout the duration of the representation;
- Providing scheduling support as it relates to client meetings, depositions, mediations, court events, and other case- or client-related events
- Maintaining organized digital case files
- Generally supporting the personal injury practice area needs
We are a highly collaborative office, and, like all our paralegal positions, this is an in-person position.
Qualifications:
We do not require prior paralegal or other legal experience, but it will be strongly considered. We would appreciate finding someone who enjoys organizing and prioritizing. We also do not require any specific degree or certificate. Instead, we believe that employees who succeed at our firm demonstrate the following:
- Strong interpersonal skills and the desire to work in a collaborative, team environment, but also having the ability to stay focused when operating alone;
- Fulfilled by working in a collaborative team and assisting an attorney in all tasks;

- Excellent technological skills. Our firm uses a cloud-based case management system and our personal injury practice group maintains both digital and paper files. We seek candidates who are or can become proficient in:

90 Day Paid Paralegal Internship – Cedar Rapids Office

During your 90 days, you’ll work with lawyers and paralegals to learn the ropes of paralegal work within our firm. A paralegal generally assists with managing cases in all states of litigation – some of those tasks will include:
- Providing overall management for all deadlines and assuring the same have been met.
- Working with clients to gather and organize key information and documents at various stages of a case from initial sign-up through trial.
- Drafting legal documents including: administrative complaints, petitions, discovery requests and responses, appearances, notices, motions, dismissals, and other similar documents.
- Corresponding with third parties including employers, medical providers, government agencies, expert witnesses, and others to request and receive key documents and information.
- Managing case deadlines and progress.
- Overseeing the flow of written document exchange with opposing legal counsel, including both responding to requests and managing and organizing incoming information.
- Assisting with all aspects of scheduled court events and trial, including attending events when needed.
- Serving as a front-line resource for clients and the liaison between attorneys and clients throughout the duration of the representation.
- Providing scheduling support as it relates to client meetings, depositions, mediations, court events, and other case- or client-related events.
